Coolum Beach, Sunshine Coast
Just under 4km from Coolum Beach, Mt Coolum summit walk is a must do mission on the Sunshine Coast. It’s epic 360 degree views at the top are more than worth the walk to the top!
About 1.5 hours return for us, this track is mostly shaded at the beginning but you will feel the elements as you start the final part to the top, so watch the wind conditions on the day you try it. It can get steep in some places, so its best to take the little legends on this one once they have a few walks under their belt. (Our youngest made it up and down when she was under 4)
The summit offers amazing views and plenty of space to find your own spot to sit down and kick back with a pre packed picnic - keep your eyes out on the ocean, you never know when you might spot a pod of dolphins out there, or watch the planes coming in and landing at the nearby sunshine coast airport.
A pair of peregrine falcons live on the moutain, keep an eye out for them and send us a pic if you are lucky enough to catch them! They can get up to speeds of over 320km (yes, you read that right!) when they are hunting, and there are only about 30 breeding pairs in South East Queensland.
Another family favourite of ours, completed every time with a stop at the Coolum IGA on the way home for a high five and an ice cream each!
Distance: 1.6km return
